Saturday, 24 October 2026, marks Sharad Purnima (also celebrated as Kojagari Purnima and Raas Purnima)—the night when the full moon shines with all sixteen divine kalas (phases), bathing the earth in luminous celestial silver.
The Sacred Lore of the Autumn Full Moon
According to ancient belief, moonlight on Sharad Purnima rains nectar (amrit). Families prepare sweet kheer and leave it in silver bowls beneath the open sky overnight to absorb the healing lunar rays. In spiritual tradition, this was the night when Lord Krishna performed the cosmic Maha Raas with the Gopis of Vrindavan.
The Sartorial Code: Moonlit Silks & Silver Weaves
The sacred aesthetic of Sharad Purnima demands pure white, silver, kora, and pearl tones that echo the moonlight:
- Translucent Chanderi Silks: Handwoven with fine cotton-silk warps and gossamer zari motifs, Chanderi drapes feel practically weightless, glowing softly under the moon.
- Silver (Chandi) Zari Accents: While gold represents the sun, silver represents the moon (chandra). Sarees woven with pure silver metallic wefts create an ethereal, reflective shimmer.
- Pearls & Moonstones: Accentuate your drape with strings of natural freshwater pearls, silver filigree jhumkas, and moonstone rings.
